Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a challenge for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Sit down with your significant other and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere on Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like conventional biological terror, but within Together exists a intense meditation about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for ten years. Married in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a special spark to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The narrative begins when the couple relocate from the big city to the rural area for her career. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, of course, but that’s primarily where the tropes end. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim tumble into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a strange force takes hold of the duo. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, weaving in moments of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but tastefully done) body horror, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes during something grotesque). The director orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his floundering music career gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and far away from his support system. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he can’t drive and relies on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie refrains from painting one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Both characters face the type of challenges that come with long-term unions after ten years. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Conversely, some couples who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion plant anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can undertake today.

Together is currently playing on Hulu now.
